The Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) is a public university institution devoted to high level education and research excellence in engineering. UPC has a large experience participating and leading CORDIS/IST projects. The involvement of UPC will be carried out by the Access&Transmission Section of the Optical Communications Group of the Signal Theory and Communications Department. It has a large experience in Optical Fibre Technologies and High-Speed Networking. The specific areas of research in Optical Communications are: extended optical access and transport networks, all-optical transparent WDM networking, polarization/PMD treatment, advanced modulations formats, network quality monitoring and control and IP/GMPLS/WDM protocols for the Control Plane. The group has published over 200 international works in these fields.
